Ellerhorst Elementary Additon and Modernization
West Contra Costa Unified School District

The scope for this late 1950 s K-6 campus included new classroom additions, a new administration building and the modernization of all other classrooms and existing facilities. The new administration building, designed by H+A Architects, provides the campus with an entrance that is both attractive and practical, and features reception areas, administrative offices, a conference room, teacher/ staff work spaces and the campus server.

The existing classroom wings, including the Library, the Computer Lab, as well as a new Kindergarten/ 1st Grade classroom for disabled students, underwent structural upgrades and were modernized with new floor-to-ceiling finishes, exterior windows, doors and hardware, and accessibility upgrades. The entire site received new power and lighting, mechanical units, an automatic fire alarm system, and computer data improvements.

Other site improvements included the replacement of covered walkways, installation of sun-shading devices at the south side of classroom buildings, landscaping, paths of travel improvements, fencing, and parking lot improvements.
